The Piece
A 19th-century Venetian mirror from the island of Murano, its border formed entirely of faceted mirrored glass rather than a carved or gilded frame — the signature specchiera construction of the Venetian glass workshops. Each facet of the border, and the arched cresting above the plate, is hand-cut and hand-engraved with a flowing pattern of flowers and foliage, no two panels quite identical.
At 83 × 49.5 cm it carries a generous rectangular plate in portrait format — substantial enough to anchor a wall on its own, while remaining physically light compared with a giltwood mirror of the same scale, by virtue of its glass construction. The mirror plate carries a soft, natural foxing consistent with its age.
Acquired via a French dealer (Vendargues-Antiquités, June 2026 trip), the piece is attributed Venice (Murano), 19th century, on the evidence of its hand-cut, non-uniform engraving and naturally aged plate.
For anyone searching for an antique Venetian mirror, a genuine Murano glass mirror, or a hand-engraved etched-glass mirror for sale, this piece reads as unmistakably Venetian in any setting — equally at home hung alone above a console or paired with a second glass mirror of the same hand. Available for private sale, with worldwide shipping arranged on request.

Construction & Detail
The border is formed entirely of faceted mirrored glass panels and a separate arched crest — no wood, gesso, or gilding anywhere. This is the signature specchiera technique unique to Venice's glass workshops, distinct from every carved or gilded frame in the collection.
Each border panel and the cresting is hand-cut and hand-engraved with a flowing foliate and floral pattern, no two panels quite identical — evidence of hand work rather than a machine-cut modern batch piece.
At 83 × 49.5 cm, the mirror carries a generous rectangular plate in portrait format — substantial enough to anchor a wall alone, while remaining physically light for its size by virtue of its glass-only construction.
